Czech film director, born 5. May 1945, Kladno.
Son of Jurist Doctor Jiri Svoboda (nottar) and Bozena Svobodova (née Prochazkova).
I married 1973. My wife dipl.ing.née Niznanska.
Two doughters:
Jarmila, M.D., PhD., a memeber MENZA.
Gabriela, PhD. Anthropology, Journalist. Now Public relations Agency.
I studied Theatre drama at Acadamy of Performing Arts DAMU, Prague
- expelled for political reasons 1963. Worked as warehouseman and driver 1963-66.
In 60th studied film and TV direction on Acadamy of Performing Arts,Film´s Faculty FAMU, Prague - gradueted 1971 as Mgr. of Art.
1971 - 1993 worked as director and scriptwriter Film Studios Barrandov.
Merited Artist 1986.
Deputy Chair. Union of Czech Dramatic Artists 1987-89; Chairman Union
of Czech Film Artists 1987-90.
Member CP of Czechoslovakia 1975-90; Chairman CP of the Czechlands and Moravia 1990-93; Deputy to House of Nations Federal Ass. of Czech and Slowak Federal Republic 1990-92.
Seriously wounded in attempt on my life in dec.1992 at our House. The morder was not find.
1990 - 94 asistant on Acadamy of Performing Arts, Film´s Faculty
FAMU, Prague; 1994 - gradueted senior lecturer (assistant professor).
