ISHA Hradec Králové

A Brief Introduction

Dear Visitor, Dear Friend of History,

let us shortly inform you about ISHA Hradec Králové genesis, history and current activities and long-time projects as well. Our community has been existing as a student branch of the Historians of the Czech Republic Association - Historical Club 1872 since 1994. The local student branch was established at the University of Hradec Králové with the idea of a student club as a platform for further promotion of students´ extracurricular activities. And really the expectations did not only meet the target but they also far exceeded it. Have a look!

Our annual agenda of activities has been traditionally consisting of both domestic and foreign events (see the page Cronicle). Among the former there one can find for instance our participation at the archaeological excavations held by The Institute of History of our University (the medieval localities of Vysoké Chvojno 1996, Stárkov 1999, Mostek 2000), educational trips to places of historical interest (Slovakia, Austria and Hungary 1995, Poland and Slovakia 1997, Sub-Carpathean Ruthenia in Ukraine 1997, an excursion to the archaeological sites of the former Empire of Great Moravia in 1998, the monastic and municipal architectural treasures of Southern Bohemia and Upper Austria in 1999, less explored localities in Central Bohemia 2000, Vienna 2000 etc.), seminars devoted to regional history accompanied with outstanding lectures of our professors (usually in spring and autumn). We also print one issue of our section News Journal each year for the internal use of our section members. As far as the foreign activities are concerned, we are proud to have the opportunity to highlight our regular participation at International Students of History Association congresses and seminars. We have been admitted to ISHA in 1997. We did not miss the Annual congresses „Revolutions“ in Helsinki 1998, „Enemies and Feinbilder“ in Heidelberg 1999, „The Century“ in Zagreb 2000 and „Minorities“ in Vilnius 2001. Also the ISHA seminars were enriched with our section members´ presence: „Changing History - the Past and the Historian“ in Turku 2000, „The Slavs in Central Europe“ in Ljubljana 2001.

ISHA Hradec Králové also organised its own seminar. Its topic was „The Great Personalities of the Habsburg House“, it was held in October 1999 in a small picturesque country town of Žamberk on the foothills of The Orlické (Eagle) mountains. About 3 dozens of participants from Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Finland, Germany and Indonesia accepted our invitation and worked in special purpose-designed workshops focused in the individual spheres of the Habsburgs´ historical significance.

The current number of our section members is 30. The management (see the page Contacts and Management) consists of the President, the Vice-President and the Co-ordinator. The President is re-elected every two years and the office has been administrated since the birth of our section by Jan Morávek. The Institute of History - our seat - has also granted us a tutor who has been kindly helping us with the facilitation of the section management. The current tutor is Doc. PhDr. František MUSIL, CSc., renowned regional historian of Eastern Bohemia.
